IS A BEAGLE RIGHT FOR YOU?

Beagles are a wonderful delightful breed, but they aren't for everyone. If you are thinking about adding a beagle to your family there are a few things we think you should know. Beagles are high energy scent hounds, which means that they need to have a securely fenced yard to safely contain them. The scent of a bunny or anything else interesting for that matter and any training to "come when called" you think you may have achieved may likely be forgotten. Be resigned to the fact that your beagle will NEVER be off leash except in the safety of his own fenced yard. Beagles love company, they were developed to live and hunt in packs and left alone for long periods of time a beagle will become very unhappy. In the absence of a pack to spend there time with a beagle will be more than happy to spend there time with you. Another dog or even a cat can make all the difference when you can't play. Beagles are smart and affectionate but can also be stubborn and independent. Most beagles will eat anything and everything so there food intake needs to be closely monitored. Beagles actually need to eat very little, they just don't agree. Most beagles are not yappy but they will bark at strangers or possible the neighbours dog. They have short course hair, and although they do shed there grooming requirements are minimal.Beagles are generally a healthy, hearty breed with a life expectancy of between 12-15 years.
Beagles are fun loving, good-natured and playful. They get along wonderfully with people and other dogs. With there sturdy build, happy and ready for action personality they make a great choice for a family with children. The beagle is like "a big dog" in a "small package" Beagles truly are MERRY LITTLE HOUNDS.
